A Winter Stroll...

Coastal Delaware Beach StrollPart of February is the quietness that accompanies Coastal Delaware, a busy summer resort area. Sure there are plenty of activities and talented shows to keep you entertained. But I like to think that it is also a time to reflect on Mother Nature.

There is nothing as beautiful as the symphony she presents when you walk the beaches. The grasses emit a golden yellow ochre, as their bodies bend in the wind like graceful ballerinas, swaying under a cool breeze. Even the sand dunes are dressed up in the winter coat of pale raw sienna with a hint of pink reflecting from a smiling sun.

The ocean wears its traditional steel gray. Mostly the waves are a whisper, lapping the shore line. But in its ever eye catching motion it seems to say, “Come take my hand and let’s walk together. Tell me your troubles, your joys, your anxieties.” Mother Nature knows how to be a friend as well as a respected force.

A quick trip to view the lighthouses in Lewes and the rustic brown madder garb worn around the monument to those searching for refuge, demonstrates the palette she has chosen. Even here the ocean is inviting with its accompanying birds, water fowl and brush. The rocks take on a highlighted lilac hue, so as not to appear so harsh.

Everything can seem gentle around here in the winter months, even the shower of falling snow flakes. It only adds to the breath taking views and seems to invite contemplation. Things will be fresh and clean in the upcoming spring soon enough. For now, enjoy the roots of this area.
