Clear Space Theatre Company, located on the beach block of Baltimore Avenue in Rehoboth, was founded in 2004. The organization brings a much-needed facet to downtown Rehoboth - live entertainment. Performing on weeknights as well as weekends, and in the summer as well as year-round, families, couples, and friends can pick and choose between shows and times. This spring, as the beach approaches its busy season, so does Clear Space. And as usual, they've managed to dig up all sorts of talented actors and musicians right here on Delmarva.
In years past, Clear Space has presented such summer blockbusters as Chicago and Cabaret to sold-out houses. This year, not one to disappoint, Clear Space's summer reperatory includes: 9 to 5: The Musical, La Cage aux Folles, The Sound of Music, and Radio Gaga: A Glee-ful Music Event. There's something for everyone in the summer line-up, and you're sure to enjoy some lively evening entertainment after a long day at the beach!
9 to 5: The Musical kicks off the season early, running from May 3 - 19. With music and lyrics by Dolly Parton, this is a show familiar to many via the hit movie starring Dolly Parton. It's the story of three unlikely friends who are employed by a sexist, egotistical boss. The women team up to get revenge and hilarity ensues. The show's score is part country, part pop, and all Broadway!
After a short pause to prepare for the three-show summer run, La Cage aux Folles runs June 27 - August 29. One might also know La Cage aux Folles from Hollywood fame: The Birdcage, starring Robin Williams, is its cinema adaption. Georges runs a nightclub and Albin is its drag queen star. When their son announces his intention to marry the daughter of a man who aims to take down the club, free spirited entertainers and blue-collar morality clash, making for poignant scenes and MANY laughs. Combined with the show's lively score, La Cage aux Folles is an audience pleaser!
The Sound of Music is this year's well-known, beloved musical that everyone can enjoy, running July 1 - August 31. I'm sure you know the story, thanks to Julie Andrews. The governess and her charges, the Von Trapp children, sing favorites such as "My Favorite Things," "Do-Re-Mi," and "Climb Ev'ry Mountain," as World War II creeps up on their idyllic lives. This show is sure to sell out fast!
Finally, Clear Space follows its tradition of orginial musical revues with Radio Gaga: A Glee-ful Music Event. Clear Space describes this show as: "Pop music's hottest artists - Adele, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Beyonce, and more - will take over the stage through our talented ensemble of vocalists." Clear Space's cabarets are a favorite of audiences, and with TV's "Glee" riding high in popularity, they've really come up with a great musical concept. Radio Gaga runs July 12 - September 7.
Tickets are available to be reserved by seat, so act quickly in order to get the best seats in the house. Visit Clear Space's website to reserve tickets, learn more about the organization, and maybe even sign up for a class!#shareaholic#
